Marins acknowledges the right to privacy of every natural person. You are protected by this policy regardless of your capacity as a principal or a beneficiary of our services.
We process your personal data in a lawful manner and we strive to provide maximum transparency how we do it.

What information do we collect about you?
Marins processes diverse information, which you provide willingly to us by copies of documents and correspondence or by registration to our websites . If you decide not to give us your personal data, we will be unable to enter into a contract with you or assist you to conclude the contract to which you will be a party. Sometimes we receive your personal data from your employer. We may also receive information from your insurer or from a party authorised by the insurer. Marins processes different categories of personal data depending on the scope and volume of the services we provide, e.g.:
- Physical identity: names, address, personal identity number and others - for the purpose of concluding a contract;
- Contact data: phone number, email address etc- for the purpose of servicing the contracts and for marketing;
- Property: documents of title - for property insurance, vehicle registration document - for motor insurance, etc.
- Health status: health questionnaire containing information on previous and current illness, treatment and others – for life and accident insurance; medical examination documents and others - for medical insurance;
- Social identity: bank account - for processing indemnity payment, etc.
In many cases, you will have to provide documents, which contain information that we need for the provision of our services, but also information that is not relevant to the service. We do not process this information in addition to the processing of the document itself and we do not use it for other purposes which are not related to the performance of our contract with you or our legal obligations.
What is the purpose we use your data for and on what legal basis we process it?
Marins processes your personal data in order to provide insurance intermediation and other additional services.
The personal data we collect is processed on the basis of its necessity for the performance of a contract to which you are a party or in order to take steps at your request prior to entering into a contract. This applies when we present, offer or make other preparations related for the conclusion of the insurance or reinsurance contracts or when we assist with the servicing and performance of such contracts, including in case of insurance event and the performance of our statutory duties as insurance brokers such as:
- Analysing the insurance risks and the offers for coverage;
- Consulting;
- Observing the renewal terms;
- Assistance with insurance claims handling;
Performance of a contract is the legal basis for processing when you use our additional services such as negotiating and administering prepaid sports centres’ cards, negotiations and organisation of medical examinations etc.
We may process your data on the basis of our statutory duties such as identification of persons willing to purchase a specific type of insurance, or to check if any sanctions apply.
In some cases, we process your personal data on the basis of our legitimate interest or the legitimate interest of our principal. This applies to insurance products or other services provided by Marins to their principal for the benefit of а third party-natural person, as well as for products and services for the benefit of the principal, which require the personal data processing of а third party-natural person. Based on legitimate interest Marins controls the quality of the services we provide and we process your personal data when you make an individual employee assesment using the instrument in the email signatures of each employee.
Your data will also be used for creating a client registration and accounting purposes. If you have given your explicit consent your data will also be used for marketing purposes. If you do not wish to receive such materials from us, you can always withdraw your consent later by contacting us.
The special categories of your personal data (health status, genetic data related to health status. etc.) are processed on the following legal basis:
- Your explicit consent when the processing is necessary for concluding or preliminary work for concluding an insurance contract, as well as for assistance with insurance claims handling when these activities require disclosure of such information. In this case you may withdraw your consent anytime, but this may prevent us from performing the services you require from us;
- For the establishment, exercise or defence of legal claims;
- In rare occasions it is possible to process your personal data to protect your vital interests when you are physically or legally incapable of giving your consent.
In processing your personal data with us you will not be subject to an automated decision-making.
How long do we keep your personal data?
Marins processes your personal data as long as it is needed for the performance of the service, then it is archived. The periods for keeping an archive are determined by the law. E.g.:
- Your insurance policy may have expired, but in accordance with the Accounting Act, we need to keep it for 10 more years for the purpose of tax control.
- The broker has statutory duty to provide claims handling assistance to its client, therefore we keep information and documents for all insurance claims until the expiration of the period of limitation.
When the purpose of processing is only checking the completeness of documentation and/or transferring such documentation to the insurer, in most of the cases we do not keep copies of your claims and their attachments, thus complying with the principle of minimizing the processed data.
Who do we share your information with?
The information you provide us with will be shared with the insurance companies and parties authorised by insurance companies if it is needed for securing an offer as per your requirements.
When we are looking for insurance abroad we may give your data to a partnering broker in another country, including outside the EU.
When you have requested additional intermediary and consultancy services, which are not insurance intermediation, your data will be disclosed to the service provider.
Marins does not provide your information to third parties for marketing purposes.
Marins does not have its own accounting and IT department. These activities are outsourced to another company in Bulgaria. As a data processor on behalf of Marins we require guarantees it applies adequate measures for secure processing of your personal data in compliance with the applicable legislation and protection of your rights.
Marins stores your personal data in electronic form on cloud systems maintained verified service providers. The servers of these companies may be located outside the EU, in countries where the European Commission has decided that they ensure an adequate level of protection (e.g. USA, Switzerland), but also in countries where there is no such decision of the European Commission. In the last case, your guarantees are ensured by the binding corporate rules of these companies.

In some cases we may be a subject of a statutory duty to provide your information to certain public authorities.
In all other cases, we share your information after obtaining your consent.
Marins does not sell your information to third parties.
Your rights
Being our client, whose personal data we process, you are entitled to the following rights:
- Right to be informed, whether your data is being processed and how it is being processed
- Right to access your personal data
- Right to rectify your personal data.
- Right to erase your data
- Right to restrict the processing
- Right to portability and transfer
- Right to object against a manner of processing.
For further information how to exercise your rights, please contact us on the details given at the beginning of this policy. We will handle your request and reply to you within 30 days from its receipt. Depending on the complexity of your request and the number of requests received we can prolong this period by two months, but you will be notified by us in the meantime.
